Project Summary

The Momentary Affect Regulation – Safer Sex Intervention (MARSSI) is being developed to reduce unintended pregnancy among young women with depression. MARSSI combines brief clinic-based sexual risk reduction counseling and cognitive-behavioral skill teaching with mobile self-monitoring and responsive messaging upon report of poor affective states and maladaptive cognitive states. The MARSSI program will capitalize on the advantages of in-person counseling, while keeping this resource-intensive component brief. The use of mobile technology will apply real-time self-monitoring and context-responsive intervention in the daily lives of the young women with depression served through this program.
